It's The Start of Something New! Episode 1

Episode 1 is out!!

DTD Cast

Opening:

DTD Cast Episode One. A monthly podcast covering the Dare to Duel Harry Potter online RPG. Volunteers are needed to scope out Harry Potter news, fan media and more. Also, there will be one site member featured each month. What’s the catch? YOU HAVE TO POST!!!! And you have to do it more than once that month, more like once or twice a week. The site is going dead, get out there and post.

As you all know, Christmas is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning the Yule Ball at Hogwarts. The date is yet to be decided, but time is quickly running out. Get out there, and grab a date.

Member of the Month: Wednesday Lourde

Wednesday Lourde is a sixth year Hufflepuff. She is the seeker for the Hufflepuff quidditch team. Recently, Wednesday was involved in a severe accident during a match suffering several broken bones, and major bruising. No worries though, Madame Pomfrey patched her up, and she should be back to classes soon.

After graduation from Hogwarts, Wednesday plans to join the Ministry of Magic as a spell constructor or Auror. She plans to achieve this goal by taking a charms intensive course of study while in school.

Gossip:

There have been whispers abound in the corridors about a certain master and his apprentice. Recently the two have been seen spending a lot of time together, more than is normal for business associates. Neither of them could be reached for comment, further fueling the rumors.

As was stated above, the seeker for the Hufflepuff quidditch team, Wednesday Lourde, was involved in a rather nasty accident during a match. Apparently, towards the end of the match, Wednesday had caught sight of the snitch, went into a dive, and jumped from her broom. She plummeted to the ground, and broke several bones. Some students say that there were ribs sticking from her chest, and they had to re-attach her leg. Others say that she had died on the pitch, and had to be brought back by some new potion that Madame Pomfrey created. Wednesday declined to comment when asked.

HP News:

The trailer for the new Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released last month. No Quidditch was shown, perhaps this is an indication that there will again be no matches.

Rupert Grint’s Driving lessons is now out, Alan Rickman in Sweeny Todd, Daniel Radcliff’s new movie.

Character Moment:

Harry Potter (Part One)

First in the series of character evaluations is the one and only Harry Potter. His character is the most intriguing in the series. Not only because he is the main character, but also because he is the one that we, as readers and/or viewers, can relate to the most. Because who hasn’t felt like their family has mistreated them, or that the adults they trust aren’t listening to them, or, perhaps most importantly, that our friends have abandoned us and left us to face the world alone.

Harry’s character has become an increasingly dark one throughout the series. As the mystery and “magic” of the world that he belongs in is stripped away, Harry becomes increasingly withdrawn, and obsessive. He shifts his attention from learning about where he came from to his insatiable thirst for vengeance. His deep, personal vendetta against Lord Voldemort has taken over his life.

This all-consuming obsession with Voldemort, in my opinion, is not realistic. Sure, teenagers have some sort of wrong committed against them, and they may try to find a way to get the person/people involved back, but eventually they let it go.

The romantic side of Harry’s character doesn’t develop much in the series. The two-chapter romance between him and Ginny Weasley was not enough to satisfy our hunger for a serious romance. But J.K. Rowling has a way of making us come back for more. The way the break up went after Dumbledore’s funeral, it may be hinting towards a reconnection of the couple in book 7. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Owl Post:

Dare to Duel cast held a contest to name the owl that brings in the emails and voicemails. Unfortunately, there were only two submissions for a name, and both were by the same person! (Another reason to get out there and get active on the boards) The submissions were Bouregard Reginald Quartermeir III and Myrtle Jennifer Reinwold IX.

There will be more contests coming soon. Keep checking the boards and listening in to find out.

Closing:

Well, that’s if for the very first episode of the Dare to Duel podcast! Hope you enjoyed it, and come back for more. We’re still taking ideas for segments and materials to put in them. Send ideas and information to daretoduel.staff@gmail.com.
